Point Loma and Ocean Beach San Diego Historic Structures
The Point Loma Peninsula is best known for the 1855 Lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument, the Cabrillo statue, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, and its sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean on the west and San Diego Bay on the east side of the peninsula.
Point Loma was also the location of the American branch of the religious/utopian community known as the Theosophical Society, a world-wide movement that was established in 1875. Katherine Tingley, head of the American branch, began construction of buildings on Point Loma in 1899, and the community remained here until 1929. These pages show the few remaining structures from that era. It is now part of Point Loma Nazarene University.
In addition, the Ocean Beach community features many iconic beach cottages that have been nicely preserved.
